First of all, an important announcement! There were several instances of careless behaviour on the infield last Monday, which could have resulted in serious injury.
Members are instructed to follow track & field safety rules at all times during all our track & field fixtures at Monkton Stadium. Spectators are NOT ALLOWED on the inside of the track. Competitors and officials waiting to take part in their next specific field event are the only ones allowed on the inside of the track. Competitors and officials should always be aware when throwing events are taking place - especially near the long jump and triple jump runways. Competitors should NEVER TAKE A SHORT CUT ACROSS THE CENTER OF THE FIELD to the start of their race. On a side note, please don't park on the grass around the track at the front of the stadium - the grass is getting torn up and the stadium staff are not happy. There is a ton of free parking along the sides of York Avenue, and the few minutes walk to the stadium will warm you up nicely for your event! There are also some updated rules regarding lane infringements - full details can be found on THIS LINK but a simple demonstration of the rules is shown below. Many thanks to the many athletes and supporters at last night's event - there was an excellent turnout this year and luckily the weather was relatively kind to us. Thank you to the officials who stood outside for hours, the first aid team, the council for allowing us to use the park, the stadium staff and finally the athletes themselves - we hope you all enjoyed the evening. The results have finally been published, big apologies for the delay in getting these online, not up to my usual standard! Results can be found HERE and below are a few pics of the winners in various age groups. PS If there was an award for watch stopping on the line, there'd be a few worthy contenders here! Pics courtesy of Archie Jenkins and Peter Scaife Full details of the above race can be found within our Road and Cross-country section - please check it out for your chance to represent your country in Glasgow in November!
Entries are now open for the NEMAA Open Road Relay Championships on Wednesday May 3rd at Bedeswell Park near Monkton Stadium. This is always a popular event so don't miss out on taking part - make sure your club race secretary is aware and has entered some teams (or get together with a couple of friends and do your own entry!). There is also a Come and Try Walk which will take place before the main event - if you haven't tried race walking before (or even if you have!), you're welcome to give it a go.
Full details of the relays on our Road and XC page HERE and the walk entry can be made HERE. Entries close Friday April 28th. Entries are now open for Match 1 of the NEMAA Track and Field League on May 15th 2023. Full details of each match can be found on the Track and Field main page, along with links to enter match 1 or buy a season pass which gives you entry to all six league matches.
Please note that we have a slightly different timetable this year, with all disciplines having an A and B group. There will be a maximum of 15 athletes accepted in each A group, and these athletes must meet (or exceed) their age group standard to be considered for selection. We are extremely short of field officials for this first match - we could really use some extra help, so if your club has any qualified field officials of any grade, or any willing volunteers, please ask them to consider helping out to ensure the smooth running of this first match in the series. Thank you. Entries close at midnight February 26th for the Lee Valley-based masters open events, alongside the BMAF Pentathlon and 3000m Championships. These events take place on March 11th, and open events are available for all masters across a variety of distances and field events, although several events are now sold out and the remaining events have limited places. Full details can be found on the OpenTrack website. The Inter-Area Cross Country is taking place on 4th March at Lloyds Park, Croydon - entries close on 2nd March, details HERE. Finally, the BMAF XC Championships, hosted by Heaton at the Rising Sun Sports Ground already has almost 170 entries from clubs all over the country - don't miss your chance to win a BMAF medal on home ground. Entries close at midnight on March 10th and full details can be found on our Road and Cross Country Page
Entries are now closed for the NEMAA XC - full info including course map and directions are available on the XC page . Please take a look at the potential teams listed below (I say potential because they're obviously dependent on all the athletes turning out on the day!). If your team is shown in green, you don't need to declare as there is a natural age group team within your club and the fastest three athletes will automatically be selected, assuming they've all competed.
If your team is shown in orange, you MUST declare your team before the race (there will be declaration slips available when you come to collect your numbers). If these teams aren't declared, they will NOT be eligible for any team awards on the day (individual medals will obviously still be applicable). NEMAA AGM will take place on January 9th at Lindisfarne Social Club Wallsend at 7pm (West Street NE28 8LG). Agenda items are shown below, all interested members welcome.
For those who might have missed it, the final endurance GP standings are now under our results heading - this is the link
