If you have ever thought of becoming a field official, or you were one in the past and didn't renew your licence, please consider going on the upcoming course being held at Shildon on 19th April - further information on the UKA Athletics Hub. Depending on your choice of events, you may still be able to compete AND officiate at other events during the evening.
The first NEMAA T&F league match takes place on 18th May, and as things stand we cannot hold the high jump event. Additionally, all throwers will be expected to retrieve their own implements. Single match entries and a season pass application are available on the Track & Field page]]><![CDATA[Blaydon Race News]]>Tue, 07 Apr 2026 19:39:58 GMThttps://www.nemaa.co.uk/news1/blaydon-race-newsThis year’s Blaydon Race will host the NECAA North-East Road Race Championships for the first time on the event’s traditional date of 9th June. NECAA’s Road Running Secretary, Calum Johnson of Gateshead Harriers has won the prestigious race for the past four years and he is keen that other North-East club athletes join him in the event this year. As the Blaydon Race is always massively oversubscribed, NECAA have negotiated privileged access for its members. They have 100 entries which they have allocated as follows:

NECAA Championship Runners: Men Sub 31:30 for 10K or sub 15:20 for 5K, in the
past 24 months: 25 places, fastest runners take priority.
NECAA Championship Runners: Women: Sub 38:30 10K or sub19:00 5K, in the past
24 months: 25 places, fastest runners take priority.
NECAA Club Runners: Men: Who have run 50 mins of faster for 10K, in the past 24
months, on a first come first served basis.
NECAA Club Runners: Women: Who have run 55 mins or faster for 10K, in the past
24 months, on a first come first served basis.
In addition, we can nominate Elite runners who have achieved the following times:
Elite Men: Sub 30:30 10K or 14:45 5K, for a free entry.
Elite Women: Sub 36.00 10K or 18:00 5K, for a free entry.

Conditions: Please use this link to submit your entry, indicating which category you are applying for and the race organisers will check your times against Power of Ten. Those that qualify and have been allocated an entry will be sent entry details by the race organisers and at this point you will pay your entry fee, unless you are an elite athlete.
We have done our best to both improve the strength and depth of the NECAA Championships whilst trying to be fair and inclusive to club members more widely. The race organiser’s decisions are final.
If you are just outside the times quoted please consider submitting your details in any event as there may not be 25 runners who qualify in your category. NEMAA definitely have athletes who would reach some of the standards required above!
Entries open on 1st April and close at midnight on 15th April.

David will be known by many NEMAA members who competed for England at the British and Irish Masters cross country international. David and his wife Ruth were England team managers for some years. He was also EMAA Treasurer for several years.
David’s funeral will be held on 21st April. RIP David.

The purpose of the study is to explore the thoughts, feelings and opinions of individuals who have current or recent experience in NHS Musculoskeletal (MSK) services. As an organisation that represents committed and experienced athletes, NEMAA's members’ perspectives would be incredibly valuable.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and all responses will be treated confidentially and in accordance with ethical research guidelines. The study has received appropriate ethical approval from the University of Sunderland.

I believe this research has the potential to contribute positively to the Masters athletics community, and support from the Association would make a meaningful difference in reaching individuals whose voices deserve to be heard.

]]><![CDATA[Scottish Masters Indoor Championships, Glasgow 2026 - a report by Stuart Lynn]]>Mon, 09 Feb 2026 16:51:09 GMThttps://www.nemaa.co.uk/news1/scottish-masters-indoor-championships-glasgow-2026-a-report-by-stuart-lynnNorth Shields Poly Masters topped the medal table at the Scottish Masters Indoor Championships in Glasgow at the weekend, capping a strong showing from athletes across the North East.

Competitors from several regional clubs made the trip north, producing a host of impressive performances throughout the championships. Leading the way were the North Shields Poly athletes, who finished top of the standings with an outstanding haul of 10 gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

A number of new North East Indoor All Time records were also set , by Hazel Bough (1500m), Karen Storey (60m), Lee Elder (800m), Lloyd Powell (HJ), Ian Richardson (60m), Andrew Webb (60mh), Steve Dodds (400m), and Stuart Lynn (200m and 400m). If there are any others please let us know?

As always, the event was run in the great Emirates Arena, to a very high standard, with world class organisation and officiating. Special thanks also go to the officials who travelled from the North East to support the championships.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, to all the medallists, and to those who earned the title of Scottish Champion.
