Despite a dismal forecast of rain all day (which it certainly did!), the vast majority of entrants still turned up to compete in our annual throws pentathlon on Saturday 20th September. The rain certainly didn't stop play, with some great performances throughout the day, and displays of heroic hardiness from our fantastic officials, without whom the event couldn't take place. We also held a small presentation to mark the "retirement" of one of our longest serving officials, Bernard Johnson, who has performed the role for 66 years, as well as coaching earlier in his career. We wish Bernard all the best, and he'll hopefully be making some guest appearances next season to perform announcing duties at Churchill Playing Fields!

NEMAA are very pleased to announce that we are holding our third stand-alone Throws Pentathlon Championships on September 20th at Monkton Stadium. Numbers will be strictly limited to 40 competitors, to allow a quality competition for all athletes. You do not have to participate in every individual event, though this will obviously affect your points total in the pentathlon. This year we will also be presenting the Stuart Ryan award to the male and female NEMAA athletes with the highest points total on the day.
Non NEMAA members, and members of other area masters clubs will be charged a small additional fee and be eligible for a medal, but must not displace any NEMAA competitor from a medal position. All competitors must be 35 or over and registered with a UKA affiliated club. Club vests must be worn. Entry lists and results will be shown on the Roster Athletics platform

A team of 44 athletes from NEMAA made the journey south to Derby for the prestigious British Masters Athletics Championships, and they returned with an outstanding medal haul.
The weekend was full of drama, with competitors facing blazing sunshine one moment and torrential thunderstorms the next. But the unpredictable weather didn’t stop NEMAA athletes from delivering one of their strongest performances to date.
In total, 30 athletes brought home 53 medals:

A Championship to Remember
This was a superb weekend of athletics, showcasing the determination, versatility, and talent of NEMAA athletes across all age groups. Every competitor played a part in making the 2025 British Championships a record-breaking success for the region.

The 5,000m race will start at 11:00 and the 10,000m race (both NEMAA and NECAA) will begin at 12:00. Numbers will be available for collection from 9am in the clubhouse (or possibly behind the clubhouse, dependent on weather!).
