An amazing 43 Championship records were set yesterday which also included 3 UK and 16 NEMAA all time! Wow The largest amount of records broken came in the 100m, 200m and High Jump with 4 out of the 5 records in the high jump breaking both championship and all time marks. Well done to Sarah Johnson (Darlington), Don Butler (J&H), Alistair Hill (Middlesbrough) and Bruce Robertson (NSP)! The 100m and 200m saw several championship records broken with 2 all time records being set by Angela Kelly, W60 (Giffnock) and Kathleen Stewart, W80 (NSP), the fantastic Kathleen securing UK records in both events, and also in the 400m! The 1500m and 5km events both witnessed 3 championship records in each event with Ian Barnes M85 (Darlington) adding the 1500m all time ,and I believe UK also, to his ever building profile. There were 4 championship records set in the long jump and a further 3 in the triple jump. Stephanie White (W60) of Tynedale set all time records in both events respectively. Not to be outdone, our throwers were tremendous to set 16 records in total over the 5 possible events. Jeanette Kilgour (W70) Heaton set all time in discus and shot putt; Christine Elliott (W60) and Hugh Ryan (M85) of NEVAC set all time records in the weight, whilst Hugh added the hammer to this as well as championship records in the discus, shot put and javelin. Christine secured further championship records in the hammer and javelin. So many brilliant performances to mention and I am sorry for the ones I have missed. Despite the past 15months encroaching on everyone's ability to train, and compete, especially in technical disciplines it clearly shows the dedication by so many of our athletes. Let's hope this now provides us all with motivation to carry on, drive onwards and upwards and provides inspiration to others. It certainly has for me. Well done all athletes, officials and organisers! Jacqui Etherington Photo of 100m race with UK record holder Kath Stewart on far left.
IMPORTANT - No spectators today, sorry. All entrants have already been informed of this, but just in case you were thinking of coming along to support today, please don't! Best of luck to all the athletes competing today, the weather looks perfect for some PBs and records. Results will be posted online on the T&F Champs page and our Results page as soon as possible after each race or event.
REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR BIB IF YOU HAVE COMPETED IN THE LEAGUE!! Please email me ASAP and we'll try and sort something out. I am aware that some of you are having issues with checkout on the site, apologies for that.
If you want to compete in the NEMAA T&F Championships, entries close on Saturday 12th June and there are NO LATE ENTRIES!
Entries and info HERE Just in case you missed it on the Track & Field page, here's the link to the results from Monday's match. Please have a look and check your results - if you have any queries, please email me, don't just leave a comment on here which might get missed. Regarding the high jump (or lack of), I'd like to offer an apology for the event not being available last night. This was down to a lack of communication between NEMAA and the officials involved, who were in no way to blame, and who did a sterling job last night coping with the huge entries for the field events. Without them, there wouldn't be any events, and I think we all realise what an amazing bunch of officials we have here in the North East. The night at least offered us some lovely weather after the first damp match of the year, so let's hope for more of the same for the remainder of the season - well done to all who competed, and if any of you haven't got your Champs entries in yet, then get a move on as the closing date is the 12th June! Entries available HERE. Video of the 200m, courtesy of Darren Towart Full info for the match on 7th June including start lists, timetables and important safety information is given on THIS PAGE. Warmups will take place on the cinder track at the front of the stadium as before, with athletes being called into the stadium 10 minutes prior to their race (30 mins for field athletes).
Please note - because of the current situation with Covid variants and a possible resurgence, we are still not allowing spectators into the stadium. I realise that this is disappointing to many of you, but we have to take into account the fact that many of our athletes are higher risk due to both age and health problems, as well as our officials, and we already have a large number of athletes attending the match - allowing more people to mingle is an unnecessary risk, and one which we are unwilling to take until the government has lifted all restrictions. Apologies for this, but we hope you understand and appreciate that we are trying to look after everyone. Two more things to mention:- BRING YOUR OWN PINS, and DON'T FORGET YOUR BIB!! |
