Far too many athletes to mention individually, but please have a look at both the Championship Records and All-Time Records which have been promptly and efficiently updated by Jacqui Etherington, thanks Jacqui. Not including the Memorial 300mH, there were 54 new Championship records broken on Saturday (this doesn't include guest athletes, so there were even more than that!) and 17 All-time records - well done to all who competed!
With a record (possibly, I still haven't checked!) number of entries for today's champs, it was always going to be a busy day - but despite some early delays, and huge entries in the field events, we managed to finish the day more or less on schedule, and hopefully you all had a fantastic day - the lovely weather certainly helped! Results can be seen online at the following links:- Sprints & Hurdles Distance (800m and upwards) Results for all races can be seen in age category order at the bottom of each results page. Throws and Jumps An unofficial Weights Pentathlon was also held - results for that can be seen at the bottom of this post. We'd like to thank all the officials who spent many hours on the field and track today, and without whom this event couldn't have taken place - special thanks to Lynne Marr for organising them all in the first place! We'd also like to thank Ron Stewart and Helen Morris for their hard work in giving out the medals today in somewhat breezy conditions! Almost forgot to mention the fab commentary by Sparrow Morley - thanks for that, definitely added to the atmosphere! It's been lovely to see lots of posts on the FB pages with happy athletes showing off their medal haul - hope to see lots of you at the next league match, and remember there's a pentathlon champs on 21st September, entries are now open on our website here. Hi, first of all, many thanks for your entry into this year's T&F Championships, we hope you will have an enjoyable day of competition. Please check the online start lists here to make sure I've entered your details correctly (because it's not unknown for me to make a mistake!) and let me know if you spot any issues or omissions. There are three sets of start lists - sprints for races up to 400m, distance for up to 5k and the walk/steeplechase events, and throws/jumps should be self explanatory! Apologies - timetable may be subject to delays due to the large numbers of entrantsI've attached a pdf of the timetable for the day (shown above) - this is only a guide, as we seem to have a record number of entries this year, so there may be some slight delays in start times, though we will of course endeavour to stick as closely as possible to the schedule. Anyone bringing their own throwing implement will need to get it weighed - this is usually done under the stand near the announcers box.
If you have any event clashes (e.g. jump or throw on at same time as a race), please ensure you register with the field official and let them know that you might have to leave to take part in your race - they will usually try and accommodate you as best they can, but you may find that you miss a round of competition. This can't be helped, and they are only following the rules if they say you can't re-enter the competition in a particular round, so please don't blame the official if you miss your throw/jump. I'm not sure if the cafe will be open so make sure you bring some food and drink with you if you are here for the duration! Remember to give yourself plenty of time to park (it'll be busy), and bring some change for the parking meter, as I think it's fixed now - would hate you to end up with a parking fine. Please don't park your car inconsiderately in the nearby housing estate - street parking is also available along either side of York Avenue (the dual carriageway just off the A194) and the short walk to the stadium will give you a nice warm up! For those of you who've competed in the league this season - DON'T FORGET YOUR NUMBER!!! For the rest of you, I'll have your numbers ready for you to collect - I'll be in the announcer's box from first thing in the morning. To avoid congestion in this area, could you only come to the box if you need a number. For everyone else, I will have sheets on the back wall with a list of names - could you please mark yourself as present when you arrive (I'll attach a nice big marker pen - just cross through your name). I'll be getting paper results produced as quickly as possible, with medals being presented shortly after each event. The results will also be appearing online almost immediately here - if you spot any issues, please inform me as soon as possible. I think that's about it, it just remains for me to wish you good luck, enjoy the day, and don't forget the following items:- Your bib number (if you have one) Pins Your shoes and club vest Money for parking Your smile (remember to have fun whilst competing!) Entries for the NEMAA T&F Champs close today (18th June), but two new events are now available for entry. These are the Open Pentathlon Championships and the BMAF/NEMAA Track 10k Championships, both taking place at Monkton Stadium on 21st September. This event is open to ALL age groups and both men and women.
Entries for the NEMAA Pentathlon (and Weight Pentathlon) can be made via our own website here (includes postal option), whilst the BMAF 10k Champs/NEMAA 10k Champs are only available online via the OpenTrack stystem - full details here. This is a rare opportunity to win a British Masters medal in the North East - don't miss out! This is a request from Paul Donaghy:-
Could I appeal to all vet 400m runners to see if anyone accidentally picked up my size 9 Nike spikes on Monday night? Thanks. If anyone finds that they've mistakenly taken these home, please either comment here or email me, thanks! I know some of you are wanting to add another event to your Champs entry (either because you're suddenly performing better than you thought, you've seen the competition and think you're in with a good chance, or you just couldn't make up your mind at the time you first entered!). The good news is, you can now do that as I've made a special entry just for you :) Here's the link plus a caution - please don't use this as your main entry, as I WILL be asking you for more money! This link is only to be used if you've already entered and then decided you want to do another event.
We've long suspected it, but today it was confirmed by Power of 10 - our Masters League is officially the largest in the country, in terms of numbers of athletes at one match! We're all proud to be a part of such a successful venture, and hope that you all continue to show your enthusiasm for the event in years to come. That was the good news - now for the not so good news. During our first match, we received complaints from home owners behind the stadium, because male athletes were relieving themselves in the trees whilst waiting for their 3,000m heats, in view of their houses (as you can see from the pic below, the houses are closer than you think). We don't want our athletes to face being charged with exposure, and this behaviour won't be tolerated at the next match on Monday. Anyone caught urinating in the trees risks automatic disqualification from the race - please act responsibly and use the facilities provided, they're less than 200m away!
There was a small problem with the results from last night's match - the shot results were not showing in the GP table on the harrier league website. This is now sorted - so no need to contact me please, I'm aware! Thanks, and apologies for the delay. However, there are some slight issues with identical times within the same age group, so a corrected version of the grand prix will appear on this website shortly.
Also, due to the ever increasing number of competitors (sometimes 50 or 60 in the Shot or Discus) it is essential that members place themselves in the correct throws group A or B. Therefore, and at the discretion of the officials - if competitors register themselves in the A group and are unable to attain the basic A group distance within their first two throws - they will be asked to miss their third throw and register in the B group in future fixtures. Please see T&F League rules in the 2019 Newsletter. |
