Fantastic start to the 2020 Track and Field Season by NEMAA athletes. The Scottish Masters Indoor Athletics Championships on the 2nd February 2020 turned out to be a fantastic event for the NEMAA athletes that made the trip to Glasgow. Collectively they brought home 9 gold medals, 3 for Kath Stewart, 2 for Lourdes Bradley, 2 for Guy Bracken (all North Shields Poly), 1 for Jacqui Hodgson (Durham City) and 1 for Darren Towart (Tynedale). Added to the gold medals were 2 silver, Paul Dodds (North Shields) and Phil Pitt (Morpeth), and 4 bronze medals, Paul Dodds, Norman De Bruin (North Shields), Conrad Kennedy (Durham City) and Lee Henry (South Shields). The event also saw a bunch of indoor PB’s from the medal winners and also from Paul Fisher and Stuart Lynn (both North Shields). However, the highlight of the meeting came in the shape of another two British records from North Shields Poly legend Kath Stewart who smashed the previous 400m Indoors record by an amazing 16.41s (only 1 second outside of the world record) and then went on to smash the 200 record for good measure. For those who attended the Emirates Arena they enjoyed the best indoor facility in the UK, what’s more the hospitality received and organisation around the event was superb. It would be fantastic to see more NEMAA athletes who participate across the summer Track and Field league give it a try.
