Not long to get your entries in for the following events:-
NEMAA Weight Pentathlon on Saturday Sept 9th - only 8 places remaining! ENTRIES HERE NECAA/NEMAA Pentathlon on Saturday Sept 16th - ENTRIES HERE BMAF/NEMAA 10K Track Championships (within Pentathlon Champs on Sept 16th) - ENTRIES HERE This last event is a rare chance at a BMAF medal on home ground - don't miss it! The final fixture of the North East Masters Track and Field League took place at Monkton Stadium last night, but before the action got under way a minute’s silent tribute followed by a round of applause was called upon for one of the region’s leading officials who recently died. Tommy Morgan, a life member of Wallsend Harriers, acted as field referee at not just local events but was also often called upon to officiate at national fixtures where his knowledge was greatly appreciated. Condolences to Tommy’s family from everyone connected with athletics here in the region. RIP.
Bill McGuirk As I'm sure the athletes of Jarrow and South Shields are very aware, they are very close to each other (and we're not talking about their proximity on the map), with the Grand Prix for the ladies still able to go either way on Monday.
In the individual categories, we have Andy Pattison and Anthony Liddle neck and neck in the M35 sprints, whilst Jackie Murdy (S Shields) and Linda Smith (Jarrow) have 1 point between them in the W55 middle distance category - will the arch rivalry for top GP position between the clubs spur the ladies on? We'll have to see on the night! Marie Bell and Lesley Charman are both tied for top position in the W45 jumps category, with both ladies consistently scoring 6 points in their respective events - can they both hang on and finish the season on a perfect set of scores and a tie? And of course, after all the excitement of the final match of the season, we have the RELAYS to look forward to - that bit at the end of the night that is organised chaos, but hopefully also good fun for everyone taking part. Look forward to seeing you all there, and hopefully there'll be medals to collect for the individual grand prix winners (I'm hoping to be able to finalise the scores on the night). Could the winners of last year's team prize please bring their trophies in so we can present the winning teams on the night, thank you! Huge apologies to those athletes who turned up tonight to find that all field events had been cancelled. Unfortunately it had been hoped that the full match would be able to go ahead, but the decision to cancel was made following an inspection by our field referee, as it was deemed unsafe to throw and jump, given the condition of the infield and pits which were very waterlogged and/or flooded. Any athletes who were only entered for field events will be refunded (apart from season pass holders, sorry!). We hope the track athletes enjoyed their events despite the rather damp conditions!

First of all, an important announcement! There were several instances of careless behaviour on the infield last Monday, which could have resulted in serious injury.
Members are instructed to follow track & field safety rules at all times during all our track & field fixtures at Monkton Stadium. Spectators are NOT ALLOWED on the inside of the track. Competitors and officials waiting to take part in their next specific field event are the only ones allowed on the inside of the track. Competitors and officials should always be aware when throwing events are taking place - especially near the long jump and triple jump runways. Competitors should NEVER TAKE A SHORT CUT ACROSS THE CENTER OF THE FIELD to the start of their race. On a side note, please don't park on the grass around the track at the front of the stadium - the grass is getting torn up and the stadium staff are not happy. There is a ton of free parking along the sides of York Avenue, and the few minutes walk to the stadium will warm you up nicely for your event! There are also some updated rules regarding lane infringements - full details can be found on THIS LINK but a simple demonstration of the rules is shown below. |
