Ray Robinson - Veteran & Master Athlete

Ray Robinson has recently competed at the Invictus UK Trials & Adaptive Sports National Champs at Sheffield, competing in an amazing 8 finals in 4 days, in an attempt to qualify for the Invictus Games being held at the Hague in 2020. These finals consisted of 1500m and 400m on track then 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 50m breaststroke in the pool, cycling time trials and indoor rowing (1 min and 4 min races).

For anyone who is unfamiliar with the Invictus Games, they're an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women, both serving and veteran. Ray is hoping to hear whether he has been successful or not in October/November. 

Ray also has a very strong background in race walking, having won several titles earlier this year in the M40 category, including the BMAF 10,000m track race walk in a time of 67:54.34 and the Northern Senior 10km race walk in 59:26 on 13th July, as well as the BMAF Indoor 3,000m race walk champs in Lee Valley, winning in 19:01.19.

He recently moved up an age group, and for his first race in his new M45 category he won the 3,000m race walk at Birmingham in a time of 18:56.92, making that his 7th BMAF title inside a year.

Ray is surprisingly modest about his achievements, and says "After a 5 year absence from athletics and 15 years from track running, it's been a shock to the system!"
